General Permit Conditions
Permits are issued with a detailed set of General Conditions that apply to any permitted vehicle. The permit holder must follow the General Conditions as well as any additional standard conditions such as over length, over height, over width or overweight.
Summary of General Conditions
- You must comply with the conditions in this permit if any of the following apply:
- you hire the permitted vehicle
- you are named on the permit
- you are operating the vehicle under permit
- you are the vehicle owner
- you are driving the vehicle under permit
- The permit holder must maintain legal allowable weights at all times.
- You are responsible for ensuring that all dimensions and weights shown on the permit are correct.
- Bring any inaccuracies on the permit to the attention of the Permit Office immediately to be corrected. The vehicle or load cannot be moved until the permit has been corrected.
- The permit holder is responsible for any personal injury or property damage caused by the movement.
- This permit may be cancelled if the permit holder:
- fails to comply with a condition of the permit
- fails to comply with relevant Acts or regulations
- fails to pay all required permit fees
- Permit holders must consult proper traffic authorities to ensure the proposed route does not contain road closures or restrictions.
- Current road construction or restrictions supersede those on the permit.
- Be aware of road and weather conditions at all times, and drive appropriately.
- Travel is not allowed when adverse driving conditions exist. If adverse driving conditions exist, drivers can reroute if permit conditions allow. If not, vehicles must exit the roadway at the first available opportunity and park in a safe location until conditions improve.
- Vehicles must not travel on the shoulder of the highway unless allowed by permit.
- Permits and/or permit numbers must be available in the vehicle.
- Permit holders must ensure that dimensions and weights of the vehicle and load do not exceed the limits on the proposed route.
- A current list of structure restrictions must be attached to the permit in order for it to be valid.
- Report all traffic incidents involving the permitted vehicle to Transportation and Infrastructure within 48 hours of the incident using the Incident Report Form for Permitted Vehicles (PDF, 188 KB). Completed forms can be faxed (204-945-6499) or emailed to Permit Services.
- Permits are not valid through any restricted provincial roadway and/or construction site along the route unless written permission is obtained from Permit Services. (This condition does not apply within the City of Winnipeg.)
- The permit holder is responsible for obtaining all municipal permits required along the route.
- The Manitoba government and the cities of Brandon and Winnipeg as well as their employees and agents are not responsible for any injury, loss or damage caused by the movement of a vehicle or load while under permit.
- All applicable acts, regulations, and bylaws must be followed, unless otherwise stated in the permit.
