Over Weight Vehicles or Loads
A permit is required when the vehicle or vehicle combination exceed legal weights.

The weights allowed in this standard may be combined with the allowance of any other standard provided the vehicle and load concurrently meet the requirements of each policy.
General application
Unless the vehicle and load meet the criteria laid out in another standard, the following apply:
- Equipment specifications are not explicitly addressed must meet applicable federal and/or provincial safety standards.
- The gross axle weight rating (GAWR) must meet or exceed the overweight allowances.
- On non-steering axles, the minimum cross section tire size must be 235 mm as stamped on the side of the tire.
- Axles (other than steer axles) cannot be fitted with single tires.
- Single axle overloads are not allowed on drive axles, trailer axles, jeeps or boosters.
- The load must be non-divisible, however; objects integral to the load that are removed to make it narrower/shorter for ease of transport are allowed on the same vehicle.
- Axles equipped with wide-base single tires are not eligible for axle overloads.
- Note: jeep and booster section is not yet included.
Permit Limits
Maximum steer axle weights
- The maximum steer axle weight must not exceed 10 kg/mm width of tire.
- The maximum steer axle weight allowed by axle group is:
- Single steer axle 9,100 kg
- Tandem steer axle 16,000 kg
Maximum axle weight for axle groups other than steer axles
- The maximum axle weight on non-steer axle groups must not exceed 9 kg/mm width of tire.
- The maximum axle weight allowed by axle group is:
- Tandem axle 21,960 kg
- Tridem axle 27,500 kg
- 16-wheel tandem axle *27,500 kg
- 24-wheel tridem axle *27,500 kg
*Reviews for 16 wheel and 24 wheel configurations are required when exceeding 27,500 kg
Standard Overweight Permit Conditions
Condition
- Steer axle groups are allowed up to 10 kg per millimetre width of tire.
- Drive axle groups are allowed up to 9 kg per millimetre width of tire.
