July 1, 2023 - new Family Support Enforcement Act
As of July 1, 2023, the Maintenance Enforcement Program (MEP) authorities fall under the new The Family Support Enforcement Act. This new legislation replaces The Family Maintenance Act.
Please note the new changes that may affect you:
- Terminology changes:
- Creditors are now called support recipients
- Debtors are now called support payors
- Maintenance is now called support
- Changes to Late Payment Penalties:
- MEP does not assess LPPs in some circumstances including:
- On an increase of support arrears ordered by a court between the effective date of the increase and the date of the order (or date of the adjustment).
- If the support payor establishes and complies with a payment arrangement.
- If the support payor has been approved for an administrative suspension of enforcement.
- MEP does not assess LPPs in some circumstances including:
