Become Classified
Overview
If you are an Early Childhood Educator (ECE) who was educated outside of Canada, you must complete this process to become classified as a Child Care Assistant (CCA), ECE II or ECE III:
STEP 3. Preliminary Review
The Early Learning and Child Care Program conducts a preliminary review of your required documents and application.
Timeline: 4-6 weeks
- If you do NOT qualify for ECE classification, the Early Learning and Child Care Program will classify you as a CCA (skip to Step 5. Final Outcome);
- If it appears that you may qualify for ECE classification, the Early Learning and Child Care Program will advise you to complete a credential assessment. the Early Learning and Child Care Program can classify you as a CCA while you are waiting for this report so that you may begin work.
OR
STEP 4. Credential Assessment
If required, complete a credential assessment and provide the Early Learning and Child Care Program with your results.Timeline: 6-12 weeks. Check with chosen agency for a current update on wait periods
Cost: $100 - $145. Check with agency for a list of current costs
STEP 5. Final Outcome
The Early Learning and Child Care Program advises you of your classification level (CCA, ECE II, or ECE III) based on the results of your documentation, credential assessment and further the Early Learning and Child Care Program review.
