Classifications
There are 3 levels of classification in Manitoba:
1. Child Care Assistant (CCA)
If you apply for classification at the ECE II or ECE III level, but do not meet the education standards for those levels, you will be classified as a Child Care Assistant (CCA). In order to obtain employment as a CCA, you must:
- complete 40 hours of approved child care training within the first year of employment, or have already completed 40 hours of approved training within the previous 8 years
- hold a valid certificate in Standard Level First Aid and Level C Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and
- complete a Criminal Record Check and a Child Abuse Registry Check upon employment.

2. Early Childhood Educator (ECE) II
In order to be classified at the ECE II level, you must:- have a two year post-secondary diploma or degree specific to Early Childhood Education that is equivalent to Manitoba education standards OR have completed a Manitoba assessment program.
In order to obtain employment as an ECE II, you must:
- hold a valid certificate in Standard Level First Aid and Level C Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and
- complete a Criminal Record Check and a Child Abuse Registry Check upon employment.
3. Early Childhood Educator (ECE) III
In order to be classified at the ECE III level, you must:- meet the education requirements for ECE II classification, and
- have completed a specialization or degree program that is equivalent to Manitoba education standards
- hold a valid certificate in Standard Level First Aid and Level C Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and
- complete a Criminal Record Check and a Child Abuse Registry Check upon employment.
