Recommended Immunization Schedule for Infants and Pre-School Children

All Manitobans 6 months of age and older are eligible for influenza vaccine each year. Click here for current information on the seasonal influenza vaccine.

 = A single vaccine dose given.

^  = Children with high-risk medical conditions and those living in First Nations communities should be immunized with Pneumococcal Conjugate 20 valent (Pneu-C-20) at 2, 4, 6 and 18 months. Please see Eligibility Criteria for high risk criteria.

* As of March 1, 2024, a meningococcal vaccine that protects against four strains is offered as part of the Immunization Schedule for Infants and Pre-School Children.

  • Nimenrix® is the recommended product if the pneumococcal vaccine is also being administered as Nimenrix® does not decrease the immune response to the pneumococcal vaccine (i.e., Prevnar® 13). Nimenrix® is given as a single dose to children 12 months and older.
  • For children 12 to 23 months of age, Menactra® has a 2-dose schedule with the second dose given at least 3 months apart.
  • For children 24 months and older, Menactra® can be given as a single dose.
  • Those with certain high-risk medical conditions may require additional doses. Refer to the Manitoba Health, Seniors and Long-Term Care eligibility criteria and the Canadian Immunization Guide for dose requirements and intervals.

* = Tdap vaccine is available for adults who are due for a tetanus booster and have not previously received a pertussis-containing vaccine in adulthood and pregnant women in every pregnancy optimally between 27 and 32 weeks gestation.

** = Pneu-C-20 is available for adults 65 years and older who have not yet received Pneu-P-23 since turning age 65. If they had received a dose of Pneu-P-23 before turning 65, Pneu-C-20 can be administered 5 years after that dose. (Note: There is currently no recommendation to administer a dose of Pneu-C-20 if someone has already received a dose of Pneu-C-20 before turning 65.)
