Alternate Dispute Resolution

AAlternate Dispute Resolution, also known as Out-of-Court Resolution, refers to resolving disputes through methods other than litigation (going to court). The Divorce Act and The Family Law Act, require that families seeking to separate or divorce throughout Manitoba consider various services, supports and programs that may help them settle their family law issues, outside of court, such as parenting arrangements, child and spousal support, and property division.

To help reach an agreement outside of court, families may attempt to settle their disputes through public or private services such as mediation, arbitration, and collaborative family law.
