Help for People in Same-Sex Relationships

Family violence occurs in gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, transgender and two-spirited relationships as often as it does in other relationships. It is a myth that family violence does not happen in same-sex relationships. It can be hard to admit the problem and get help. Even when the abuse is acknowledged, the couple may fear a homophobic (people who don’t like or are afraid of homosexuals) response from those who could help them.

If you are being abused, you:

  • are not responsible for the abuse
  • do not need to “out” yourself to get help
  • can receive help and support regardless of your sexuality

Agencies that are funded through Gender-Based Violence Program (GBVP) work with people of all sexual/gender orientations.
