Functional Designs
Manitoba Infrastructure develops long-term highway plans and designs based on:
- current and projected traffic volumes/characteristics
- engineering standards linked to the functionality and capacity of highways, posted/operating speeds
- traffic mix considerations (cars, trucks, busses, pedestrians, cyclists)
- safety needs/collision history
- impacts on business/landowners, other socio-economic factors, and environmental considerations (e.g. noise, greenhouse gas emissions, drainage impacts, etc.)
The long-term highway plans and designs outline roadway layout details, as well as property acquisition requirements, right-of-way needs related to highway facilities – both at the site-specific level and on a network-wide basis.
