Section 166.6 - Room and Board
Although it is recognized that an appropriate and supportive living environment is crucial to a participant's vocational success, Employability Assistance for People with Disabilities is very limited in terms of the assistance provided for any type of living costs.
In all cases where funds are requested for Room and Board, the participant must demonstrate financial need and must apply for other sources of funding such as Employment and Income Assistance, Student Loans, etc.
Applications for Room and Board may be submitted. These applications must meet the following criteria/standards:
- The education or training is not available in the Province of Manitoba, and is in a program that is designed with the special supports necessary to address specific disability-related needs.
- Maximum Room and Board rates for out of province accommodations are limited to $5,000.00 per September to April school year.
- Room and Board service codes should be used unless the training cost and Room and Board costs are unable to be separately identified. In this case, the Out of Province education service code should be used.
- Short-term emergency situations that may arise as a participant is waiting for decisions on other funding or where a short period of transitional time is required to make other arrangements.
- In these situations, the maximum contribution is $500.00.
- The Program may consider special requests to cover additional Room and Board costs, if the requests for other eligible cost items are funded through either personal or family resources.
