Rent your home
|
- You sign a legal agreement called a lease or contract
- You live in or use another person's property in return for regular payments called rent
- You may have to pay utilities and a security deposit
- You do not pay to maintain (repair) the building
- You do not build equity because you don't own the home

Live in a
cooperative |
- You purchase a membership to live in a home owned by the co-op
- As a member, you share in the financial and decision-making responsibility for the operation of the co-op, including who lives there
- You pay a share of the costs to maintain the co-op
- You build equity if you live in an equity co-op. You do not build equity if you live in a non-profit co-op

Own your home |
- You purchase your home (house or condo)
- You finance the purchase with a mortgage (down payment required)
- You pay for all maintenance
- You have responsibility for all costs
- You build equity as you pay down your home mortgage loan

Housing/Shelter for women at risk of violence |
- For women (with or without dependant children) at risk of violence
- If you are in immediate danger call the police - dial 911 or your community police number
- You pay for all maintenance
- You have responsibility for all costs
