About the Manitoba Developmental Centre
Located in Portage la Prairie, the Manitoba Developmental Centre (MDC) is an accredited residential care facility for adults with an intellectual disability.
MDC strives to enhance the quality of life for the individuals who reside there by following the principles of resident centered care, embracing an interdisciplinary team approach and being committed to continuous quality improvement.
Its mission is to support residents to achieve independence, optimal health, meaningful activity, personal growth and participation in community life.
The Centre specializes in:
- providing care and services for individuals who have complex medical conditions and require medical, nursing and therapeutic interventions.
- providing care and services for individuals whose behaviours present a risk to themselves, to others or to their environment.
- supporting individuals diagnosed with autism, individuals who are deaf blind, and for individuals requiring support to fully participate in their activities of daily living.
Services provided include: Medical, Dental, Psychiatric, and Psychological care; Speech Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Music Therapy, Clinical Nutrition Services and Therapeutic Recreation.
In January 2021, the Manitoba government announced a 3-year plan to transition all residents at the MDC to alternative supported living arrangements in the community by March 31, 2024.
