Manitoba Post- Adoption Services for Adult Adoptees (18+):
A copy of your Pre-Adoption Birth Registration and Order of Adoption:
Your Pre-Adoption Birth Registration lists your birth name and birth details as well as your birth mother's name and demographic information at the time of your birth. Manitoba Vital Statistics Agency only lists fathers on the birth document if the parents were married at the time of the birth or they signed a joint request to have the father listed on the document.
Your Order of Adoption confirms that you were legally adopted in Manitoba. It provides the date of your adoption and your adoptive name as well as your adoptive parents names. This document is only included if the adoption occurred in Manitoba.
NOTE: The release of a birth parent's name is subject to any filed Vetoes, Contact Preferences, or past refusals.
Eligibility:
An adult adoptee born in Manitoba who had their adoption granted in Manitoba or another jurisdiction.
An adult adoptee born outside of Manitoba but had their adoption granted in Manitoba, must apply for their Pre- Adoption Birth Registration through the jurisdiction where they were born.
Exception: If the jurisdicition where the adoption was granted has closed records, an adult adoptee is entitled to a Summary of Particulars created from their pre-adoption birth registration, if it is available in Manitoba's records.
Social History:
A Social History provides you with all available information from the records on your birth parents and their families moved below, including information about:
- cultural heritage, medical history, physical descriptions, birth parents' education and employment history, birth parents' families, birth parents' relationship, and the circumstances that led to you entering agency care/being placed for adoption and
- your personal development and wellbeing prior to your adoption being finalized.
If a Social History was completed and shared previously, another copy will be provided.
A Social History is shared in a non-identifying manner and will not contain names, full dates of birth or other identifying details. The amount of information available varies case by case and is dependent on the information that was gathered and recorded at the time of your birth and adoption planning.
Eligibility:
An adult adoptee who had their adoption granted in Manitoba.
An adult adoptee who had their adoption granted outside of Manitoba, must apply for their Social History through the jurisdiction where the adoption was granted.
Register for Contact/Search with Birth Family
Register for 'contact only' or to have 'contact and search' services for a birth family members including:
- Your birth mother
- Your birth father
- Your maternal birth siblings
- Your paternal birth siblings
By registering for contact only, Manitoba Post Adoption Services will:
- Notify you if a birth family member also registers to have contact with you.
- Share identifying information (full name, date of birth, and contact information) with your birth family member if they also register for contact with you.
- Facilitate a reunion by assisting both parties with establishing direct contact with each other.
By registering for contact and search services, Manitoba Post-Adoption Services will also:
- Search for the selected birth family member(s).
- If located the birth family member(s) will be informed of your interest in contact and given the opportunity to register in order to have a reunion with you.
NOTE: A search can only be performed for individuals named in the Department's records. A search is not performed for any person who is under 18 years of age or who has filed a Veto, Contact Preference, or past refusal.

An adult adoptee who had their adoption granted outside of Manitoba, must register through the jurisdiction where the adoption was granted.
