Act |
The Child and Family Services Act, The Child and Family Services Authorities Act or The Adoption Act depending on the context. |
Agency |
A child and family service agency as defined in The Child and Family Services Act. |

Child in Care (CIC) | A child or youth who is in the care, custody, or guardianship of a child welfare organization by court order, voluntary care agreement, or voluntary placement agreement. This includes a child or youth under apprehension status or if a futher court order is pending. |
Child Service Case (CS) | A case category in CFSIS. Cases include the services and activities directed toward both children in agency care and children residing outside of their guardian home as part of an agreement. Cases in which a child is repatriated from Manitoba are also categorized as Child Service case. Documentation pertaining to court ordered guardianship or agreement type and placement of the child are recorded in the Child Service Case. |
Customary Care | Care provided to an Indigenous child in a way that recognizes and reflects the unique customs of the child's Indigenous community |

Family Support | Family Support can be in the form of a service, financial assistance or item provided to a family by an agency. The parent, guardian or other person who has actual care and control of a child agrees to receiving this assistance. |

Kinship Care | Care provided under a kinship care agreement within the child's community with the participation of the child's family or persons who have significant relationships with the child or with the child's parent or guardian. |

Standard |
A mandatory, minimum level of service. A concise statement of expectations requiring compliance to clearly defined practices resulting in measurable outputs or outcomes. Can be used as a basis for service review or audit. |

An Act of the legislative assembly of a province or the parliament of Canada; codified law passed by a legislature and assented to by the King through his representatives; legislation. |
Voluntary Care | Care of a child provided by an agency, voluntarily agreed to by the parent, guardian or person who has care and control. |
