CARE - Childcare Attachment and Relationship Education

The CARE program, offered through New Directions, provides a wrap around training opportunity that supports the child care educator role in developing quality and healthy early learning environments where children can thrive.

The CARE program follows the internationally recognized Circle of Security model of attachment and is designed as an early intervention program to strengthen the relationship between a caregiver and a child. This program supports child care providers in gaining competence in helping children manage their emotions and behaviors, servicing both the needs of the family and the child care facility.

Through funding provided by Manitoba and Canada, directors and staff for licensed child care facilities in Manitoba can access the training at no cost.

Program Offering:

• Circle of Security facilitator training – Approximately 40 spaces available annually
  • Mentorship sessions – weekly availability
  • Community of Practice sessions
  • Connection, as trained facilitators, with other child care facilities wishing to receive this course with funding also available to reimburse facilitators for their time.
• Reaching Out – Series of annual trauma focused workshops and consultation/referral opportunities to family therapy services, including:
  • Trauma Informed Practice

    Participants to learn a trauma-informed perspective to better understand the relational, neurobiological and developmental impact of trauma on children as cultural beings and the value of culture in children’s development and healing.

  • Team Based Responses (internal teams, and external to the centre):

    Children attending Early Learning and Child Care programs can belong to families that are involved in different systems.  This workshop will help ECEs and CCAs understand the interconnectedness of some of those systems, and how integral their observations of the child are for the development of planning for the child or the family.  The workshop will also focus on how ECEs and CCAs can establish a team response in their work with children who present with emotional and behavioural dysregulation.

  • Understanding Assessments and Diagnoses

    Neurological and environmental factors that contribute to children’s challenging behaviours; diagnosis, programming, and resources to meet children’s emotional regulation needs.

  • Healthy Child Sexual Development

    What normative child sexual development looks like and how to support it; signs of sexual behaviour problems and how to respond.
