Arts and Culture
Arts and cultural organizations of Manitoba play a significant role in the health, well-being, social cohesion and social inclusion of Manitobans while contributing to the growth of our economy. Together with the arts, cultural groups, and industry associations we assist through a variety of funding streams, the department fosters development of the creative minds and innovation needed to ensure Manitoba’s success in an increasingly knowledge-based economy.
To achieve its objectives for the arts, culture and the creative industries, the department supports community initiatives to promote access by all Manitobans to the study, creation, production, exhibition and publication of works in the arts. It owns the Centre culturel franco manitobain and the Manitoba Centennial Centre Corporation properties and is responsible for the Provincial Art Collection. The Government of Manitoba provides support for projects, training and employment of artists, arts professionals and the creative industries workforce.
It is also home to the Francophone Affairs Secretariat which is responsible for implementation of Manitoba’s French Language Services Policy (PDF) and the Multiculturalism Secretariat which advances the goals of the Manitoba Multiculturalism Act.
Provincial funding for the community and professional arts is delivered through the Manitoba Arts Council. The department also supports the development of Manitoba’s music and media production (film and television) industries through the Manitoba Film and Sound Recording Development Corporation, otherwise know as Manitoba Film and Music (MFM).
