Recidivism
Recidivism reflects how often a person is convicted of a new offence and is returned to provincial custody within two years of release from jail or other correctional supervision.
Recidivism can be affected by several factors, including whether crimes are reported to or detected by police, whether charges are laid, and whether individuals re-offend by failing to appear in court or by breaching other conditions that may be imposed as part of a probation order or as a condition of their release from custody. Generally, reducing recidivism also reduces crime, which increases public safety and creates a more stable environment to help attract families and businesses to Manitoba.
