Knowledge of The Adults Living with an Intellectual Disability Act

This act establishes the base for services in Manitoba.  The guiding principles of the Act emphasize that individuals are presumed to have the capacity to make decisions affecting themselves, unless demonstrated otherwise. It also assumes that individuals should be encouraged to make their own decisions and choices. All supports are to be provided with dignity and respect. The adults living with an intellectual disability’s support network of family and friends can also help. Substitute decision making should be used only as a last resort.
