- Province to reduce taxes by over $88 million - Effective January 1st Manitobans and businesses will pay $88.8 million less in provincial tax in 2009.

- Speech from the Throne confirms and announces several tax measures. - The Speech from the Throne delivered November 20, 2008 confirms or re-confirms several planned tax reductions in 2009 for both businesses and individuals. The Speech also announced the Province’s intention to increase the budget for the Community Enterprise Investment Tax Credit, to provide new tax credits for employers who provide apprenticeship placements, and to reduce aviation fuel taxes.

- Speech from the Throne - The Speech from the Throne announced that the refundable portion of the Manufacturing Investment Tax Credit will be raised from 50% to 70%, effective January 1, 2008.

- The Registered Retirement Savings Protection Act comes into force on November 1. The Act protects registered plans (RRSPs, Registered Retirement Income Funds and Deferred Profit Sharing Plans) against enforcement processes such as garnishment and seizure by creditors. This protection does not apply to enforcement proceedings under The Family Property Act or The Family Maintenance Act. - The 2007 Manitoba Budget, which was approved by the Legislative Assembly before the May 22 election, was reinstated by the Assembly on June 14, 2007.

Legislation to implement tax measures announced in Budget 2007 will be introduced shortly thereafter and is expected to receive royal assent by October 25, 2007.
